Summer update… Bookmark and Share

So I’ve not blogged for a little while, things have been so busy and on top of everything, I managed to get a rotten stinking summer cold. Which kinda knocked me off my feet for a week. But that’s just about done with now, so time for a little blog post before I go outside and enjoy the weather.

So what’s been happening here in little Sweden?

Well we’ve been working sooooo hard to get the barn conversion completed so that we can start indoor dog training this summer. It looks like the timescales will have to shift again and it might be more like September when we first get to use it… but, better late than never.

We actually worked our butts off to get the hall just about finished, in time for a secret birthday party we through for Dave’s dad’s 60th. 70 guests here for a sit down meal and disco. Quite exhausting, and probably half the reason I’m now sat here with a stinkin cold as I think I was so shattered at the end of it all, my defences were down to zilch and I would’ve basically picked any little germ or bug up.

The party went really well though, and the hall worked perfectly. I will get round to posting photos, but I might as well wait until it’s finished 100% (still skirting boards to put on, and a few little patching up bitchs).

Other than that, the garden! Wow how nature can really be annoying. The ‘wild’ look has really taken hold in 80% of the garden now. We’re managing to keep on top of the small lawn area, and the odd weed here or there, but the majority of it just grows apparently by the minute! It’s impossible. We keep saying when we get the time (and money) we’ll have to just flatten it all and grass it. But that’s not an easy job. So we’re fighting to keep on top of it, and despite the amazingly wonderful flowers, it’s just impossibly covered in weed and unwanted things growing allover the place. haha. We’ve had some excellent food from the garden though, and still lots more to come. Different lettuces, chives, parsley, wild strawberries, rosemary, and so on. Then soon it’ll be time for cherries, plums, pears and apples. Yes you remember the apples I blogged about last year?!?! There’s buckets and buckets and buckets of them come autumn… But this time I’ll be more prepared for them and get people to come over and pick them to take away.

Finally, the summer. I remember writing a blog post not too long ago about the reasons one might want to emigrate from the UK to Sweden… in that I included the weather. Basically, you get real winters here, and they told me, real summers. First of all I moved here in October, so I experienced a ‘real’ winter. In fact the harshest and longest winter for decades. 1meter deep snow, freezing cold temperatures month after month, and an electricity / heating bill the size that could bring you to tears. Spring just never seemed to come. But, I’m happy to report when it came, it really came good. We’ve had simply fantastic weather for weeks now. Beautiful, beautiful!!! It really does feel different to being in the UK where you could almost pretty much guarantee that after a couple of days of nice weather, there’d be some rain on it’s way to ruin it. But here, we’ve had day after day of really perfect 20 – 25 degree weather for a long time now. When the rain does come, it seems to come at night, when everyone’s asleep. Really quite perfect I suppose.

I’ve just looked at the forecast today, and here it is….

Summer in Sweden

As you can see, we’ve got 27 degrees today, no rain or cloud. Tomorrow 24 degrees and then about midnight, a little light rain for a couple of hours. Small breeze to keep cool both days. Now this is my perfect idea of good summer weather. I’m just crossing my fingers that it continues through July and August. If so, I’ll be one happy guy…!! It will almost have made up for the fact that winter was SO hard!

Well today I’m off to the local park to celebrate a friends birthday, perhaps some bbq and then home.

That’s about it for now, sorry for the lack of blog posts, hopefully might do a few more now I’m off my sick bed.
