Attacking the garden… day one. Bookmark and Share

Today’s been a killer of a day. It didn’t take a genius to realise that the garden here has been swamped by weeds, overgrown plants, trees that have self planted etc etc. So somehow I decided that since it was a nice day, I’d try to start ripping up weeds and plants / shrubs that were in areas that I didn’t want.

Then I hit a problem. Once I’ve filled one wheelbarrow full, it occurred to me that there was no where to put the garden waste. So, I had to stop what I was doing, and then create a dumping area for barrow full after barrow full of the stuff. This was easier said than done. In fact it took a whole day of hard graft, ripping up deep rooted trees, shrubs, brambles, and weeds that had been unkept for some years, and probably planted before I was born. Anyway, between two of us, we managed to clear an area about 20 square metres.

In fact, the wheel barrow became too small, so out came the trusty tractor and trailer for some heavy duty clearing!

Well, I’m pleased to say, after a solid day of grafting, we now have an area in the garden which can take tonnes of garden waste, and is nicely accessible for the tractor and trailer….

Maybe soon, I will get back to my original plan of clearing general weeds and shrubs from the main garden, now that I have somewhere to shove the rubbish that I remove :-)

Unfortunately, all the hard digging has almost crippled me… I’m stiff, aching, and it seems to have made my cough and cold about ten times worse than this morning. Gutted. Feeling very sorry for myself now, laying on the sofa, nose bunged up, cough medicine apparently having no effect what so ever, and just sick of blowing my nose.

So I think the best thing for me is to get to bed, and look for the Swedish equivalent of the Yellow Pages, “Gardeners” section…. Perhaps being a farmer is not for me after all?! haha. Although I did enjoy driving the tractor around, so maybe I just need to get more power tools. Perhaps a mini JCB for the digging?! :P

he he, Yes I would be the same after digging all day. Power tools has got to be the way to go. Are you planning to compost all the waste, or have a massive bonfire?

  2. admin says:

I think a mixture of all the above. But I aint got a clue how to compost yet. And I dunno the rules of having fires in Sweden. So for the moment, it’s being piled up in this new clearing I’ve made. :)

Sweetie, you’ve got to get a man who can! All that hard graft is no good for anyone. You must get some staff xx
