Quite surprisingly it seems my little blog here captured a few unexpected visitors in it’s short life… from those who read it for specific advice on how to transport dogs from the UK in to Europe, to others who found it of general interest to see what was happening to someone having left the UK [...]

So I’ve been in Sweden 1 year… on the one hand it feels like only yesterday that I was loading up the truck to emigrate. Where as when I look back at everything I’ve done, it’s been a long year! I just thought I’d pop something on my blog to mark the occasion and update [...]

So it looks like autumn 2010 has started. Today it’s cloudy, misty, and there’s a chill in the air. The forecast has rain on and off for the next few days. So I would say that Autumn has arrived in Sweden. Can’t complain though. Summer has been absolutely fantastic. I’ve had more bbq’s and days [...]

Summer in Sweden

So I’ve not blogged for a little while, things have been so busy and on top of everything, I managed to get a rotten stinking summer cold. Which kinda knocked me off my feet for a week. But that’s just about done with now, so time for a little blog post before I go outside [...]

Garden June 2010

I was just walking back from the postbox at the bottom of the drive, and realised just how many flowers have come out this last week… I took these pics on my mobile so they’re no fab, but, hopefully you can see what I mean. I can imagine before nature took hold of this garden [...]

garden-spring-201012

After a false start early on in May, we’ve had a pretty long and hard wait for Spring to arrive in South Sweden. But, finally, it’s here! Yesterday it was so clear the air was warm, and then the sun showed itself at last. Finally we managed to get the grass cut and start on [...]

Thought I’d just add a quick post, for those still following my little blog… 1. The Swedish For Immigrants classes are going ok. I’m learning new stuff all the time, although I keep thinking it’s going slow, I do surprise myself when I can understand more and more of people’s conversations. So it must be [...]

The huge cast iron pipe from the oven chimney had to be chopped to get it out!

So, what I’ve been upto during the past few weeks? Ok, I’ve not been posting many blog items, sorry about that. But here’s a BUMPER one, with lots of photos showing exactly what I’ve been up to!! The photos cover a period of several weeks, lots of hard hard graft, and an unbelievable amount of [...]

So I thought I’d just pop something on my blog to mark another year passing and the beginning of what I hope will be an exciting 2010! Last year was a year of huge change. First of all I quit my job of 13 years! It’s quite well known that I’ve been wanting leave my [...]

autumn tree1

There was a time, just last year, when Autumn jobs meant trying to finish of old projects at work that had been hanging around my in-tray from my less productive periods during the summer, and discussing which venue we should book the work Christmas party at this year…. However, things are different now. Now it [...]

fire1

This evening I was able to have an early bonfire night… Yey!! Even though Sweden don’t really have Bonfire night as we do (obviously), I thought I might have my own little bonfire anyway out here! The reason for today’s bonfire was that today I’ve been cleaning out one of the rooms in the barn [...]

Door and frame after removal from wall

Today has been very productive. I decided to get up and start clearing the kitchen out, ready for some demolition. I was sick to the back teeth of the sight of apples, so, all thoughts of baking behind me, I turned myself from domestic goddess in to Bob the Builder, or more accurately, Don the [...]

Engine found in bushes... Almost everything cut back and cleared... and then I find this ENGINE hidden deep in the bushes that were once here. My topiary on the huge overgrown box plant is also almost complete here!

Today I’ve been digging up yet more trees and shrubs, and even tried my hand at some topiary!! I’ve now cleared by sides of the drive entrance into the courtyard, which will eventually get a nice big gate between the two, and graveled. It as previously full of climing plants up the walls, trees that [...]

One of my apple trees

I was walking down the drive, and decided to test a couple of the apples that are bursting off the trees at the moment. I’m no apple expert, in fact without a sticky label on the side, I’m pretty clueless. I can just about tell a good apple from a bad, but that’s it. Well [...]

Me attacking a deep routed tree

Today’s been a killer of a day. It didn’t take a genius to realise that the garden here has been swamped by weeds, overgrown plants, trees that have self planted etc etc. So somehow I decided that since it was a nice day, I’d try to start ripping up weeds and plants / shrubs that [...]
